Community Living Campaign

Company Overview

At the Community Living Campaign (CLC), we’re working toward a San Francisco where we can all live and thrive in our homes and neighborhoods as we grow older.

We started in 2007 as a neighborhood-based way to provide seniors and adults with disabilities with what they need to live a good life. This need continues to grow as our population ages and income disparities widen.

We bring greater joy, health, and connectedness to San Francisco seniors and people with disabilities through community-building, empowerment, and advocacy.

CLC organizes free community-based activities and programs like computer classes, healthy aging workshops, senior exercise groups grocery deliveries, and job placements. These provide important practical support and empower neighbors to advocate for themselves and others. But more importantly, they create opportunities for folks to cultivate the supportive connections and friendships they need to age well at home.

We also bring together neighbors, community organizations, academics, businesses, and City agencies to organize and advocate around issues that are too big for any of us to solve alone. Our two most recent initiatives are the SF Tech Council and the Dignity Fund Coalition.

Together, we can create an inclusive San Francisco where people of all ages and abilities can truly live “in community” – with all of the rich relationships and opportunities that define a good life.

Company History

Charting a New Path for What It Means to Age in Place

The Community Living Campaign was founded in 2007 by a small group of activists who had worked for decades to make San Francisco a better place for seniors and people with disabilities.

These leaders – Luis Calderon, Vera Hale, Marie Jobling, and Norma Satten – sought to redefine how people think about long-term care. Thanks to their vision, the Community Living Campaign is charting a new path for what it means to age in place in San Francisco.

At the Community Living Campaign, we look at the whole picture for what a person needs to age in place successfully. This includes having friends nearby you can call on for help, as well as financial security and a home that enhances your dignity. It means having real choices and the ability to make your own decisions, as well as opportunities to learn, get active, and give back.

It’s having a good life by truly living “in community.” And together, we can ensure everyone has the supports, skills, and tools to do just this.
