Description

Institute Executive Director (Fully-Remote)–Grant-funded position

Reports To: Vice President of Membership, Programs, and Thought Leadership

We’re in an historic moment. Every day, 11,000+ Americans turn 65, and in about five years there will be more older people than children under 18 for the first time. Those of us who work in and study aging understand the opportunities this can bring to communities, organizations, and economic sectors. The American Society on Aging (ASA) is excited to bring our 70-year history and power of our membership to bear as we build the preeminent virtual home for doing better business in aging—the On Aging Institute. ASA is seeking a strategic thinker and collaborator to discover opportunities, form partnerships, and lead an exceptionally talented team to bring the On Aging Institute to life and grow it over the next 3 years.

About the Job:

The American Society on Aging’s (ASA) On Aging Institute (OAI) seeks an Executive Director to provide the vision & strategy for the education delivered through the On Aging Institute. With expertise in capacity-building and organizational resilience, the executive director will ensure the Institute is positioned as the premier educational home for ASA’s multidisciplinary membership, aging-focused organizations, as well as emerging leaders working across all intersections with aging. The Executive Director will spearhead partnerships and strategies tailored to meet the needs of stakeholders in aging and will manage the team who executes this vision. The position has grant funding for up to three years.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Provide visionary leadership of the OAI for strategic growth through partnerships and innovation.

·       Work alongside the Vice President of Membership, Programs, and Thought Leadership to craft goals and outcomes for the OAI.

·       Collaborate with ASA’s operation team to ensure support for the OAI virtual space and marketing.

·       Lead and provide supervisorial, management, and mentorship support to the OAI team.

·       Work closely with the Equity Strategy Director to ensure ASA’s commitment to equity is woven through all courses.

·       Lead by example and embody the desired culture and values of the organization.

About You:

You are enthusiastic about building a more equitable aging society and the potential to form allyships with new partners and sectors who have not yet traditionally been engaged in aging. You are committed to diverse, inclusive work environments and practices that build respect, engagement, and a sense of belonging. You think and plan strategically and are comfortable with a balance of ambiguity and defined work. You have a solutions-oriented mindset and enjoy thinking creatively to navigate hurdles and minimize risk.

You have proven your skills in and thrive when you:

·       investigate, negotiate, and form smart, strategic partnerships aligned with business and growth goals.

·       shape new programs and initiatives that are aligned with strategy and fundraising & development opportunities.

·       define issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and develop sound, independent conclusions and recommendations.

You are comfortable connecting with people in a virtual environment and are already or excited to quickly get up to speed on best practices of virtual learning.

We believe a successful OAI Executive Director will have:

·       Demonstrated experience building transformative partnerships in academic, non-profit, and/or educational environments.
