We are seeking a motivated individual with laboratory experience operating high-resolution mass spectrometers to join the Laboratory for Metabolomics and Exposomics Phenotyping (, part of the Senator Frank R. Lautenberg Environmental Health Sciences Laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. You will play an integral role in coordinating our ongoing biomarker research and studies exploring environmental causes of disease, including cancer, autism, and others. Research is particularly focused on developing untargeted technologies in novel matrices for measuring early life exposures. The facility currently houses three UHPLC-HRMS instruments (Agilent 6550 and 6545, Thermo Q-Exactive HFX), two GC-HRMS (Thermo GC Q-Exactive), as well as several GC- and LC-QqQ instruments, and has plans to further strengthen its technology base.

You are expected to be a part of the Metabolomics team, participate in discussions and lab meetings, as well as be an integral part of advancing the methods development, research, and service projects central to our laboratory.  For your regular responsibilities, you will be the primary operator for an LC-HRMS instrument, perform instrument maintenance, method development, and data acquisition of research and service samples, data processing, and report writing, and lead junior staff. You will also perform science administration roles such as tracking samples through the computer (LIMS) system, and helping with receiving and shipping samples.


As the ideal candidate, you must have at least a M.Sc. in metabolomics, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or other public health related field and 3+ years of experience in a research laboratory, including using LC-MS instrumentation. You should have strong analytical wet-laboratory skills and familiarity with QA/QC procedures. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team with diverse individuals is required. You must be motivated and demonstrate initiative and flexibility. You must also have excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to independently meet project timelines. Experience analyzing samples from large epidemiological studies is a plus.

Our laboratory is located on Central Park in New York City in the Icahn School of Medicine and is affiliated with the Mount Sinai Health System, the largest health care provider in New York. The Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health also includes the Institute for Exposomic Research, the first in the world focused on exposomics.

Work-related experience will be considered in determining position level and salary.
