Description

Position Overview

The Assistant Researcher will assist members of the Cartwright lab in animal care for our marine invertebrates and in basic molecular biology techniques, including DNA isolation, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. The assistant will also be responsible for general lab maintenance including washing glassware, making solutions, making artificial seawater, and proper disposal of laboratory waste. The job will require the occasional lifting of 20 gallon carboys of seawater. Job Description

40%     General Laboratory maintenance, including making solutions and seawater, washing glassware and removal of waste.
40%     Animal care, including feeding and water changes of marine invertebrates
20%     Basic molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extractionRequired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience in basic laboratory techniques, including making solutions and extracting DNA/RNA.
